I won't bore you with long reasons why I drifted away. Essentially my job had me prioritize my time differently than I used to before my promotion, and cutting this blog out was one of the ways for me to get things done.
But I've really missed updating this, even if it was mostly for myself. So I'll do my best to keep posting stuff, starting with a photo dump of various projects I've done since the last post.
Granted, this isn't absolutely everything, but really just the ones I've managed to find from my phone. Some are complete while most are in various stages of progress.

Good to see what you're hobbying on, lots of cool stuff apparently! Including Arena Rex! Goal of mine is to finally get my ancient KS painted in 2020 and play a couple games. It's only five beefcakes, how hard could it be ...
ReplyDeleteHave you played much MFX 3E? How do you like it? My group never got back in, but we've got crews waiting in the wings, when we get tired of playing Kings of War whenever we can.
That's what I said about Arena Rex, and so far I have 3... but a lot of my enthusiasm died when I saw a bunch of my models start drooping when in any temperature higher than room temp.
ReplyDeleteI've only played about 12 games of M3E, but the rest of my group has played a lot of games - I think upward of 40+ at least from what I remember. We actually love third edition, there are a few kinks here and there that we think didn't get playtested well enough, and some weird verbiage on some items. Overall it's an improvement, I'm still in the phase of getting used to the changes, the main one being that Viktorias are nowhere near as good as they used to be. Two tournaments ago I ended up deciding that I am dropping them, they just can't compete nearly as well as they once did, especially in comparison to the field of masters that are out there that got major improvements. I switched to Parker Barrows in my last tournament and got a major improvement, which is funny because he wasn't that good in the last edition. My next crew is Tara, which is what that galaxy base is for and I'm super excited to get them done and painted. Tara is probably one of the most flexible masters in this edition, and we've discovered that there are only a few match ups she's not great at, particularly Pandora. The toughest part about the new edition is getting rid of old habits, and I keep finding myself comparing models to how they used to operate rather than how they currently work. Schemes are much harder to score, but it actually makes things much more interesting. I keep messing up how scoring works, I don't think I've played a single game where I got my scoring right. Overall it's much better for a new player who hasn't had prior edition habits to learn the game, but overall we think it's a better game - and we were frightened it was going to be garbage after The Other Side came out and we were all extremely disappointed. That was probably one of the worst wargames I'd ever played, and they have such cool models.
I encourage your group to try M3E, it's really good. The tourney system is actually getting major support with Third Floor Wars, they have a conference system and will have a Masters next year based on results. In our conference two of my group are in top placement right now, but there have only been two conference tournaments so far.
Thanks for that big reply! Naturally I only just found it when I was revisiting this post :/ I had almost the whole Tri Chi line commission painted last Spring, does seem past time I finished the basing for them (requested to do it myself, kind of regretting it :X) and get the hooch flowing.
